What is Stamp 3 permission in Ireland?
Stamp 3 is an immigration permission that allows non-EEA nationals to reside in Ireland but does not permit them to work or engage in any business, trade, or profession. It is typically granted to dependants of employment permit holders, non-EEA family members of Irish or EU citizens in certain circumstances, ministers of religion, and persons of independent means.
Stamp 3 holders may reside in Ireland for the duration stated on their IRP card but must rely on the financial support of their sponsor or their own independent means. They cannot take up employment or claim social welfare payments. If a Stamp 3 holder wishes to work, they must either apply for their own employment permit (which would change their stamp to Stamp 1) or apply to have their stamp changed, where eligible.
In some cases, spouses and partners of Critical Skills Employment Permit holders may be eligible to apply for a change from Stamp 3 to Stamp 1G, which allows them to work without an employment permit. This concession was introduced to make Ireland more attractive to highly skilled workers and their families. The application for a stamp change is made to the Immigration Service Delivery. Stamp 3 must be renewed before expiry, and the holder must maintain valid IRP registration throughout.
