What is Stamp 4 permission in Ireland?
Stamp 4 is one of the most favourable immigration permissions in Ireland. It allows the holder to reside in Ireland and to work without the need for an employment permit, meaning they can take up any employment, be self-employed, or start a business. Stamp 4 also allows the holder to access State services on the same basis as Irish nationals in many cases.
Stamp 4 may be granted to various categories of people including spouses and civil partners of Irish nationals, holders of Critical Skills Employment Permits after two years, holders of General Employment Permits after five years, programme refugees, persons granted subsidiary protection, parents of Irish citizen children in certain circumstances, and those granted long-term residency.
To apply for Stamp 4, the process depends on the category under which the person qualifies. For employment permit holders, an application is submitted to the Immigration Service Delivery with evidence of continuous employment and residency. For family members of Irish nationals, the application is made through the relevant family reunification process. Stamp 4 is typically granted for a period of one to three years and must be renewed before it expires. Holders must continue to register and maintain a valid IRP card.
