How do I bring my dependants to Ireland?
Non-EEA nationals who are legally resident in Ireland may apply to bring their dependants (spouse, civil partner, and children under 18) to join them. The process depends on the sponsor's immigration status and the nationality of the family member.
Employment permit holders can sponsor their spouse or partner and dependent children. The sponsor must demonstrate an annual income sufficient to support the family without reliance on State benefits. While there is no fixed minimum income published for all categories, the immigration authorities assess whether the sponsor can realistically support the family. The sponsor must also show they have suitable accommodation and can provide private medical insurance for the dependant.
The dependant family member must apply for a long stay (D) visa if they are a visa-required national. The application is submitted through the AVATS online system with supporting documents including the marriage certificate (if applicable), birth certificates of children, proof of the sponsor's income and employment, proof of accommodation, and evidence of private medical insurance.
Upon arrival in Ireland, the dependant must register with immigration and obtain an IRP card. They are typically granted Stamp 3 permission, which does not allow employment. However, spouses of Critical Skills Employment Permit holders may apply for Stamp 1G, which permits them to work without an employment permit.
