What is a short stay visa for Ireland?
A short stay visa, also known as a C visa, is required by visa-required nationals who wish to visit Ireland for up to 90 days. This visa is used for purposes such as tourism, visiting family or friends, attending a business meeting, or short-term study courses. A short stay visa does not permit the holder to work in Ireland or to remain beyond 90 days.
Applications are submitted online through the AVATS system and supporting documents are presented at the nearest Irish embassy or consulate. Typical supporting documents include a valid passport with at least 6 months validity beyond the intended stay, proof of accommodation, a detailed travel itinerary, evidence of sufficient funds, travel medical insurance, and an invitation letter if visiting family or friends.
The fee for a single-entry short stay visa is EUR 60, and EUR 100 for a multiple-entry visa. Processing times generally range from 4 to 8 weeks, though applicants should apply well in advance during peak periods. Immigration officers at the port of entry retain the discretion to grant a shorter stay than the visa allows. Nationals from certain countries may be eligible for the short stay visa waiver programme.
